10 Detox Tips

10 Ways To Help Your Body Detoxify

1. Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods.

2. Cleanse and protect the liver by taking herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle, and drinking green tea.

3. Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.

4. Drink water; at least two quarts daily.

5. Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.

6. Transform stress by emphasizing positive emotions.

7. Practice hydrotherapy by taking a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.

8. Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration.

9. Dry brush your skin or try detox foot spas/foot baths to remove toxins through your pores. (Special brushes are available at natural products stores.)

10. Exercise for at least one hour every day; try exercises specifically for detoxifying or cleansing, such as stretching, breathing exercises, walking/jogging/running... as well as many other exercises with specific health benefits.

Why Vinegar?

Vinegar has been used medicinally since the 5th century B.C. One folk remedy recommends drinking vinegar for weight loss. Surprisingly, current research may be proving that taking a little vinegar with your meal will indeed keep your blood sugar under control, helping you manage not only your weight but your energy as well. Apple cider vinegar is nutrient rich and has a pleasant flavor that makes it an ideal addition to your healthy diet.

VINEGAR AND BLOOD SUGAR
Vinegar's effect on blood glucose was first reported in 1988. Since then, it has been well researched and confirmed that a dose of vinegar does lower blood sugar. In 2006, a review published in Medscape General Medicine stated that vinegar seems to reduce the glycemic index of any foods consumed with it. When taken with a meal, vinegar has an antiglycemic effect. It offsets any blood sugar spikes and can even lower blood sugar levels.

VINEGAR AND DIABETES
Because of its proven effect on blood glucose, vinegar shows promise for use in treating diabetes. Researchers are still examining its effects and potential dangers. In a 2004 study published in Diabetes Care, people with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes reduced the onset of glycemia by taking a dose of vinegar before eating. One study, published in 2008 in the Pakistan Journal of Biological Science, studied apple cider vinegar's effect on diabetic animals and found it reduced lipid levels, making it potentially useful for managing diabetes. However, a 2008 study published in BMC Gastroenterology found that apple cider vinegar delayed emptying of the stomach, which could be potentially dangerous for diabetics monitoring their glucose levels.

RISKS
There are risks associated with taking apple cider vinegar, particularly with drinking it in large amounts. Mayo Clinic nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky warns that the acidity in vinegar may irritate your throat, and may also interact with certain supplements or drugs, such as insulin or diuretics. Columbia University's "Go Ask Alice" advice column also notes that vinegar can thin your blood, which can be dangerous for people taking blood-thinning medications.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Moderate doses of apple cider vinegar are generally accepted as safe. You can buy apple cider vinegar tablets, use vinegar in your food, or drink it by the tablespoon. Look for organic vinegar, which has not been pasteurized. "Go Ask Alice" advises that unpasteurized vinegar has higher nutrient content, an added benefit. However, make sure you consult your doctor before starting any alternative health treatment, and make sure you take only a tablespoon or two of vinegar each day.

3 Essential Health Tools

+ RAW HONEYThanks to our friendly buddies the bee’s we have been blessed with an amazing tool to maintain healthy living.

Honey contains bits and pieces of pollen picked up by the bees as they fly from place to place. These are minute amounts of the very things that our bodies build up allergies to. So, by taking a tablespoon a day of this local honey, you are helping your body build up immunity to the allergens. Take it raw as a sweet treat, or add it to a cup of tea or your morning coffee. Try it, it works!
  • Scratchy throat - We’ve all experienced the discomfort and annoyance of a scratchy throat. Whether you’re dealing with a full blown infection, or just the aftermath of sinus sensitivity, honey provides a protective layer in the mucus membranes. Tea’s make a great buddy during the winter months and the best throat cure is “Throat Coat” tea which is made my a few different brands. Here are a few that work:
  • Minor cough - Try this recipe: Boil water on the stove as if you were making a regular cup of tea (about 6 to 8 ounces). Fill your favorite mug with two tablespoons of local honey and the juice of half of a fresh lemon. Pour in your water, stirring until the honey is completely dissolved and then top with some fresh mint (or a couple drops of mint extract from your local health food store). Blend again.
  • Instant Energy and Immune Support - The best way to BEAT the winter health blues is to avoid getting sick. Boosting the immune system naturally is a good way to start. Two of the best things for the immune system are Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar. They both provide antioxidants, amino acids, natural antibiotics, vitamins, trace minerals, anti-viral properties and more. Just as with honey, apple cider vinegar is best in its RAW form, so don’t be fooled into thinking the over processed stuff you’ll find in your local supermarket is going to do the trick; this is one time when going organic is essential.
  • To make your daily immune booster: fill a small drinking glass with ice-cold apple juice. Add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey. Don’t worry, the vinegar shouldn’t be too overpowering when mixed with the sweet juice and the honey. What you end up with is apple juice with a pleasant zing to it, much like apple cider.

+ OLIVE LEAF  - Olive leaf extract is extracted from the leaves of the Olive tree and has numerous health benefits.
  • Immune System - As prevention is usually better than cure and you want to have a winter without the problems of colds and flu, then you should consider investing in some olive leaf extract capsules, which, if you start taking now, may be very beneficial over the coming months. If you have a cold or flu, then the symptoms will be relieved more quickly if you take olive leaf extract.
  • Heart and Cholesterol - Olive leaf extract will help in lowering cholesterol levels and reducing blood pressure, because of its antioxidant properties. The bad cholesterol in the body is the Low density Lipoprotein. When the level of LDL is lowered the condition of the heart improves. Olive Leaf Extract is recommended for the high blood pressure patients. It reduces blood pressure by relaxing the arteries. Blood flow is increased and as a result the functioning of the heart recovers.
  • Stomach - It can prevent excess acidity in the stomach and cure gastritis. It also relieves stomach pain by stopping muscle spasms in the stomach and is useful in the treatment of stomach cramps.
  • Skin - Olive leaf extract is also very good for the skin. It can eliminate acne problems and also prevents wrinkle formation. It keeps the skin young and supple. If you are tired of your acne problem then Olive leaf extract can do wonders for you. It cleanses the skin and eliminates acne forever. It will also give you a youthful and glowing skin.
  • Chronic Fatigue - It reduces chronic fatigue in the body and revitalizes the body system so that you feel more energetic. The Olive Leaf extract is also a stress buster and improves your mental health as well. Chronic fatigue is a serious problem among many people. Basically the reason of this problem is the production of micro toxins in the body. Olive leaf extract inhibits the production and thus people feel more energetic and vigilant while performing their regular activities.

+ ELDERBERRYElderberry is one of the most common fruit-bearing shrubs of North America. It’s amazing healing properties have been used for years and years.
  • Time Tested - The ancient Egyptians discovered that applying elderberry flowers improved the complexion and healed burns. All parts of the elder have long enjoyed a strong medicinal reputation on their own merits, however, ONLY the berries and flowers are recommended for internal use today.
  • Vitamin C - In fact, elderberries contain more vitamin C than any other herb except for black currants and rosehips!
  • Remedies - In recent years dietary supplements and other natural health products containing extracts, juices or syrups of European elder have become popular in America as remedies for the treatment of cold and flu symptoms, marketed primarily through natural food stores alongside other popular herbal remedies used for treatment or prevention of upper respiratory tract infections and other symptoms associated with colds and flus.

Fall Into Health Lecture Notes

Tips to Stay Healthy During the Cold Season

·    Super nutrition equals super immunity.  Your body is already built to fight off germs and viruses.  The key is to eat well to feed your immune system.

·   Develop effective stress management practices.  People who are chronically stressed are more susceptible to infections.  Try deep breathing to keep you calm and grounded.

·   If you do get the cold or flu, make sure to get adequate rest, eat light meals mostly of vegetables, broths, fruit and drink sufficient amounts of water.

·    High body temperature is one way the body fights off infection.  There is no urgent need to reduce fever unless over 102°.

·    Everyone does not need the flu shot.  Check with your doctor to determine what is best for you.

BTHW Water Bottle and Tote!

The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

The Growing concern about plastic-reusable bottles has sparked a big demand for other options. Aluminum bottles have grown in popularity as more people demand BPA free choices for reusable bottles. The BT Heath and Wellness supports this cause and you can too!

Have you ever gone to the grocery store and gotten a plastic bag and it ripped? You throw it away, right?? Well, guess what? That same plastic bag can take up to 400 years to disintegrate! That's not making the problem any better. It's making it worse. Plastic bags are bad for the environment. Have you tried using a Tote Bags instead??

Help support our environment and BT Health and Wellness find out how you can get your water bottle and tote today!

Why WATER???

Drinking water is vital to your health. Just by drinking a healthy amount of water you gain tremendous health benefits, and sometimes you can even throw away your migraine medicine or pain killer.

Here is the %:
  1. Brain consists of 90% of water
  2. Bone consists of 22% of water
  3. Blood consists of 83% water
  4. Muscle consists of 75% water

The functions of water in human body are vital. The water:
  1. Transports nutrients and oxygen into cells
  2. Moisturizes the air in lungs
  3. Helps with metabolism
  4. Protects our vital organ
  5. Helps our organs to absorb nutrients better
  6. Regulates body temperature
  7. Detoxifies
  8. Protects and moisturizes our joints

Harmful Effects and Symptoms of Dehydration
  1. Migraine
  2. Tiredness
  3. Constipation
  4. Muscle cramps
  5. Irregular blood pressure
  6. Kidney problems
  7. Dry skin
  8. 20% dehydrated – Risk of death

Symptoms of Dehydration
  1. Dark Urine Dark Yellow or Orange in Color: Urine is generally pale yellow to clear when you have sufficient water intake. Dark color or strong smell indicates that you need to drink more water.
  2. Thirst – Thirst is the most obvious sign that you're already dehydrated. It is always a good practice to drink more water when your are not thirsty, don’t wait until you're thirsty.
  3. Hunger – Most people mistake hunger for the indication to eat more, whereas in actual fact, they may be dehydrated. So before you have your meal, grab a glass of water.
  4. Fatigue – Water is a source of energy and gives you a boost in energy.  If you find yourself sloth-like all the time it may be due to lack of water.
  5. Headaches One of the first signs of dehydration is an “achy” pain that starts behind your eyebrows and can move all over your forehead and even eventually, in the late stages, to the base of your scalp.
Dry Skin - Skin is the largest body organ and requires its share of water.

How Much Water Should You Drink???
The true amount of water you should drink depends upon several factors, including your gender, age, level of activity, and environment. These numbers are determined by the average amount of water a person will lose throughout the day through excretions, as well as the amount of water required to facilitate bodily functions.

Gender:
Doctors are now recommending:
  - A healthy adult man should drink approximately 13 cups of water per day.
 - A healthy adult woman should drink approximately nine cups per day.
 - Women who are nursing or pregnant will need to drink at least 10 to 13 cups of water per day to accommodate for the additional water loss to the baby or fetus.
